NCAA Football Realignment Cont'd

If you have missed the previous posts covering the Big East, ACC and SEC please see the label on the right side of the page titled "NCAA Football Realignment" and check them out. Today I'm going to cover the Big 10 or should I say 11?

The conference name is already bogus considering there are 11 schools in a conference called the Big 10. Maybe they just don't count Indiana? Anyways, in my conference realignment the Hoosiers will stay and there will only be one addition to the conference.

All Big 10 teams will stay: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan St., Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio St., Penn St, Purdue and Wisconsin.

Teams leaving the conference: NONE

New additions to the conference: Iowa St. (Big 12)
When I think of the Big 10 aside from thinking of just bad, ugly, slow football I think of cold weather and tough conditions that mother nature brings on in the later months of the year. With that said, how is Iowa St not already a part of this conference? The other logical reasoning for choosing Iowa St to move into this conference is once again b/c of the state rivalry between them and Iowa.

I don't really have much to write considering there is only one change and it seemed pretty obvious. The lone other change I would have would be to split the conference into 2 divisions with the winners playing each other for the Big 10 Championship. Here are my division alignments and how I would predict them to finish next season:

North
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Michigan
Michigan St.
Iowa St.
Northwestern

South:
Ohio St.
Illinois
Penn St.
Purdue
Iowa
Indiana

The Buckeyes will once again walk away with the conference title when they dismantle the Badgers in the Big 10 (Bad 12) Championship game. This will set them up for another bowl loss in whatever game they play in. Overall another very boring year of football in the Big 10!

  1. Yup. This is correct. Iowa State has absolutely no place in the Big XII. They don't have an in-conference rival (seriously, who would that be?) and they're an afterthought every year (except for the glory days when Seneca Wallace was at the helm). Boot them, please.

  2. Great idea, BAD ALIGNMENT!

When adding Iowa State, the only divisional alignment that makes sense is East/West. WEST: Iowa/Iowa St./ Minnesota /Wisconsin /Northwestern /Illinois
    EAST: Michigan /Michigan St. /Indiana /Purdue /Ohio St. /Penn St.
